Home Learning Week 7
I learnt that Australia day we reflect on how British people took over the land that we call ours, but Aboriginals call it Survival day because of the British people taking over their land. Aboriginals also celebrate because they were expected to die out because of the British invasion. They celebrate by having a concert, the first concert was held at Sydney in 1992. In Perth every year Survival day is celebrated at the Supreme Court gardens.
National Reconciliation week is from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June. It was created in 1996 to provide a special focus for nationwide activities.
27 May ‐ 1967 Referendum. In 1967 over 90% of Australians voted in a Referendum to make Indigenous Australians become part of society.
9 August – International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. Each year this is celebrated on this day to take recognition of the worlds Indigenous people. It also is recognising The Indigenous’ achievement of becoming very environmentally friendly.
